David L. Lindblad 1946 - 2012 Leavenworth
David L. Lindblad, 65, of Leavenworth, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Even through his last days, he remained cheerful and loving, making the most of the life he had.
David was born Oct. 9, 1946, in Chanute, Kan., the son of George A. and Helen Marie (Walters) Lindblad. His family later moved to Piper, Kan. and he graduated from Piper High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. His overseas duty was with Tuslog Detachment 74 near Istanbul, Turkey.
After discharge from the military, David married his high-school sweetheart, Joyce Masterson. He owned and operated a sub-contracting company in housing construction until his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2007. David was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church where he served several years as a trustee and enjoyed an “acting career” in dinner theater.
David enjoyed traveling and took many trips with family and close friends. He especially loved going to Maui, Hawaii to watch the Jayhawks play basketball. He and his brothers played several years together on the Santa Fe fast pitch softball team. Fishing and hunting with his brothers was another favorite past-time. Snow skiing became a passion for David and he was the one who taught the rest of the family from his five year old niece to his oldest brother-always with patience and kindness – especially with his athletically challenged wife and two sisters in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Tommy.
David is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; his brothers, Ed and wife Ginger and Jeff and wife Joslin; his sisters in-law, Patty Rushing and husband Brent and Kathy Lindblad. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who knew that whenever they had a problem that their parents didn’t “need to know about” Uncle David was their man. They are Cindy Moore, Paula Fanning, Troy Lindblad, Austin Lindblad, Adrienne and Kenny Lynch, Ethan Lindblad, Rachel Gardner, Royce Gardner, Clayton Gardner and Scott Lindblad; his great nieces and nephews are, Sara Murrah, Jon Moore, David Moore, Paul Lindblad, Trent Lindblad, Aaron Fanning and especially “the babies’ as David always called them, Addison Lynch and Nolan Lynch.
David was known for his fun loving ways and enjoyed the laughter of others. He had no shame in playing the fool if he got a laugh. The joke was always on him – never at the expense of others. David brought laughter and happiness to all who knew him. Wherever David was, there was a party and today there is a party in Heaven.
