John (Jack) E. Brown 1922 - 2012

John (Jack) Brown, 90, passed away October 25 after a short battle with cancer. Jack was born May 7, 1922 in Crawford, Nebraska to Clarence and Anna Hays Brown, who both preceded him in death. Jack was also preceded in death by his sister Betty (Bob) Postma. Jack was married to Verna Lane on January 5th 1973. They attended Rolling Hills Presbyterian church. Before his retirement in the late 1980’s, Jack worked for Rosedale State Bank as a courier where he met Verna. They both served as volunteers at Providence Medical Center. In addition, Jack was active in community services in Wyandotte County. Jack served in the U.S Navy during World War II. He received several medals: A 5-Star Campaign in European-African M.E. Area; Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal ; American Area Campaign Medal; WWII Victory Medal and was eligible for a purple heart medal. Jack is survived by his wife, Verna; 2 step-daughters – Vivian Sill (Sandy) and Marilyn Prewett; 4 grandchildren – Stephen Sill (Pam); Kim Waljie; Angela Moyer (John) and Scott Prewett. There are 7 great- grandchildren, Sean (Dani) Sill; Chris Sill, and Dakota Sill; Anna and Emilie Moyer; Morgan and Colton Waljie. He also leaves behind 3 nephews – Jim (Kay) Postma; Joel (Amy) Postma; Mark Postma and a niece, Debbie DeLateur. Services were held on Tuesday, October 30th.
