William Roger “Bill” Dahl 1936 - 2013
William Roger “Bill” Dahl, 76, died February 19, 2013 in Sacramento, California. Bill was born April 1, 1936 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the late Melvin and Jeanne Dahl. The family lived in Colorado, Kansas, Ohio and Washington before settling in Alliance, Nebraska where Bill attended Alliance High. After receiving the prestigious Regents Scholarship in 1954, Bill attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he was a member of Acacia Fraternity and received a BA in Business Administration, graduating in 1958 with honors.
He moved to Kansas City with his wife, the late Mary Jo Wehr, to work for the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen. In 1961, he joined Westport Bank and was named President in 1977. He also served as President of Kansas City Bancshares. Bill married the late Susan Marshall in 1979 and in 1984, he chartered the First National Bank of Bonner Springs where he was President until 1988 when he moved to California.
In California, Bill worked for FEMA and for the law firm of Livingston and Mattesich. He retired in 1996. After retiring, he enjoyed travelling, buying and selling antiques, and gardening with his wife, Betty Jo. They were active in their church where he served as an elder and trustee. Bill had a light-hearted nature that endeared him to many people. He enjoyed practical jokes, ironic situations, and making people laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty Jo Dahl; his sister and her husband, Carol (Dahl) and Gene Livingston of Davis, California; his brother and his wife, Robert and Valerie Dahl of Carmel, Indiana; his children, Cynthia Dahl of Novato, California and Peter Dahl of Kansas City, Missouri; 5 stepchildren including Melissa Stephenson of Gardner, Kansas; 7 grandchildren including Ainsley Dahl of Novato, California and Timothy and Lauren Stephenson of Gardner, Kansas, 2 aunts and 8 nieces and nephews.
A service in his honor will be held March 8, 2013 at 3 pm at the First Christian Church, 3901 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, California. Donations may be made in his name to the church memorial fund or to a charity of your choice.
