Jesse R. Turner 1922 - 2013 Shawnee, KS

Jesse “Jess” R. Turner, age 90 of Shawnee, Kansas previously of Bonner Springs, KS., passed away on a lovely autumn Sabbath Day, September 29, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 4th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House in care of the funeral home.
Jess was born on December 17, 1922 in Lowry City, MO. the oldest of three children born to William H. and Stella M. (DeLozier) Turner. He was a 1940 graduate of the Linwood High School. Jess proudly served the US Army Air Corps during WWII, obtaining the rank of sergeant and serving in both the Asiatic and Pacific theaters. Upon returning from the war he went to work at the US Post office as a postal clerk and retired after 34 years of service. Following his retirement from the Post Office he worked at Commonwealth Theater and Merchants Bank with his final retirement in 1993. After retirement he spent time on yard work, flowers and tinkering with cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen A. (Tice) Turner, his daughter Carolyn S. Walker, his second wife Lois S. (Hindman) Turner, his sister Betty M. Pogue and stepson Robert D. Marvine. Survivors include five children, daughter Sharon L. Conaty of Blue Springs, MO., stepson Charles F. Marvine and wife Mary of Shawnee, KS., son Don L. Turner and wife Karon of Shawnee, KS., daughter Vickie L. Mathis of Kansas City, KS., son Mark J. Marvine of Weston, MO. , 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. As well as many friends at Wyndam Place and Bonner Springs High-rise who will mourn his passing. In the last 3 years he met his life’s soul mate, Helen Marie Misel, they were inseparable and became sweethearts forever.
