Donald E. Pogue 1940 - 2014 Bonner Springs, KS

Donald Eugene Pogue, 73, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Fri., Feb. 21, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lenexa. Funeral services will be 10 am, Tue., Feb. 25, at the Alden – Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS with his burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the Visitation from 6 to 8 pm, Mon., Feb. 24, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City or Continua Home Health and Hospice in care of the funeral home. Donald was born June 3, 1940 in Kansas City, KS and was a lifelong area resident . Donald was a teacher, photographer, historian, magician, cat lover and big brother to many. Donald never wanted to grow up. Donald attended grade school and high school in Bonner Springs and graduated from KU with a BS in education. He taught in KCKS and later at the Spafford Home for Children in Kansas City, MO. In his younger years he was a Big Brother to many boys in the Big Brother Organization. Donald worked alongside his mother at the Ben Franklin Dime Store in Bonner Springs for many years. He worked at Price Chopper and retired form Wal-Mart. Donald loved crafts, photography and history. Donald loved to do magic tricks for kids and adults. He loved to play tricks by leaving objects at your house after a visit and then waited for your call when you found them. He loved his cat Monica and he adopted stray cats and always fed them daily. Donald will be missed by all. The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lenexa for the care given to Donald while living there. A special thank you to Continua Home Health and Hospice of Kansas for their continuous care and support during his last days of his life. Donald was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Louise (Kemler) Pogue and is survived by his cousins and childhood friend who were his caregivers. Ronald and Donna Florence; Wayne and Glenna Florence all of Basehor, KS; Ron and Edie Hepner of Stillwell, KS. Cousins Marvin Kemler, Richard Kemler, Terry Lohman, Irene Bobo, Marsha Graf, Lori Bowers and many friends in Bonner Springs.
