“I'd like to see more of the council's time spent on bringing new business to Shawnee instead of petty infighting.”

“Absolutely not. Our Council members should not be governing other members. They are accountable for their trips and spending and with the new requirement to announce their intention to spend city funds, potential abuse would be identified.”

Tom Martin ( in Shawnee) says...

“I think that the out of town trips should be subject to a Council vote. While these trips may have substantial value to the community, a public airing should occur and the decision should not be made in isolation of the current economic conditions that the city and its residents are currently facing.”

“The Council members are elected by the citizens of Shawnee, and if a Council member abuses the travel guidelines the voters have the opportunity to vote them out at the next election.”
