What do you remember about where you were when you heard the news of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001?

Austin Baragary ( in Tonganoxie) says...
“When I first heard about it, I was getting on the bus to come home from school, and an older kid said something along the lines of, ‘New York City was attacked!’ Then I remember coming home to my mom crying in our living room while she watched the coverage of the attacks. Thinking back on it, however, I really didn't feel anything because I wasn't old enough to realize the magnitude of what had happened.”
Gloria Brimhall ( in Tonganoxie) says...
“I was home. It was my day off from work and I was cleaning house and my son called me. He said we’re under attack. At first it was shock and then I had a horrible sadness and ache for all those people. I had to worry, too, because I had a son in the military at that time.”
Robin Jones ( in Tonganoxie) says...
“I was attending a company meeting in Olathe when the attacks happened. At first I thought it was just an accident, a deadly mistake on the part of a pilot. Then, when the second plane flew into the other tower and the Pentagon was also hit, a sickening realization came to me. These were deliberate attacks on American soil, and our world had probably changed forever. It was like innocence lost. At that point I simply prayed for the victims of the disaster. I also prayed for the U.S. as a nation, pretty much the same way I am praying for the nation right now.”
