Do you feel like racism still exists in your community?

April Jeffries (Instructor and Welcome Center staff member, Bonner Springs YMCA in ) says...
“Unfortunately I think that there is still racism everywhere. I try to teach my children to treat everyone the way they want to be treated. Also I tell my kids that to stand and do nothing when you see someone being mistreated is worse that the person doing the wrong.”
Chad Uhl (BSHS senior in ) says...
“I think that forms of hate will exist as long as humans inhabit the Earth. It seems to be encoded in our DNA to manufacture reasons to hate people; racism is just a translation of that hate. I do not think there is much racism in Bonner Springs, granted there is still prejudice everywhere, but it seems to be at a minimum here. Nearly everyone I have encountered in this community has been kind and generous to their fellow man. This is something I admire and why I enjoy living here.”
Karen Hollenbeck ( in Basehor) says...
“I really haven’t seen any and don’t recall reading about or hearing about any in our community. And hopefully it will stay that way.”
