Julia Beemer, a Lansing Middle School eighth-grader, competed at the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Dec. 8 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. It is the same course where the Class 5A and 6A high school state championships take place. Beemer ran in the girls Youth Division, made up of 13- and 14-year-olds, against the top performers from all 50 states. She battled 20-degree temperatures, a light breeze and ice on the course and placed 185th out of 262 runners. Her time of 17 minutes, 51.60 seconds would have placed 73rd at the 5A state meet and 89th at the 6A state meet.
