Justin Shoemaker, 3, sits still as Karen Kelley, parent educator, checks his hearing July 9 at the Linwood Community Library. The USD 458 Basehor-Linwood Parents as Teachers program received a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation of almost $4,000 to buy an otoacoustic emissions screening machine. The machine can check a child's hearing without a behavioral response from the child. This is the second grant the program received from the foundation. In 2006, it received $2,900 to buy technical equipment such as laptops and printers.
