Civil War re-enactors pay tribute to Pvt. George McCarthy. The Civil War veteran was one of 14 formerly unclaimed veterans to be honored and buried during funeral services Tuesday at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. The veterans were validated and claimed through efforts of the Missing in America Project.

Fort Leavenworth honors unclaimed war veterans

Sun Rodgers of Leavenworth and Betty Wright of Shawnee cried and clung together during Tuesday’s funeral service at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
