Basehor-Linwood High School graduate Jimmy Goss is back from New York after traveling there for an awards ceremony May 31 at Carnegie Hall, where he received his silver medal from the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Past honorees in the contest include Andy Warhol, John Lithgow, Truman Capote and others who have gone on to become distinguished authors, artists and performers. Goss will leave for Pittsburg State University in the fall.

BLHS student wins prestigious writing award with lobster-alien story

Jimmy Goss knew he was in the running for some sort of writing award, but he didn't understand the significance of the honor until his creative writing teacher pulled him out of a test this May and told him exactly where the ceremony would be.
