William Lodewig of IBEW Local 18 and the Burbank (Calif.) Water and Power competes in the Journeyman Hurt Man Rescue event Saturday at the International Lineman’s Rodeo. More than 700 linemen and apprentices combined competed in the rodeo at the National Agricultural Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs. This included 170 three-person teams and more than 200 apprentices from around the world, and KCP&L was represented by seven journeyman teams and six apprentices in this year’s competition. Events included the pole climb, hurtman rescue and two mystery events. Competitors are scored on speed, work quality and most importantly, application of safety procedures.
