Basehor-Linwood junior Kara Stephens scored three goals to lead the Bobcats past Sumner Academy, 3-0, in the first round of the 5A regional tournament on Tuesday.

First-year coach Jason Tatkenhorst, who comes off a 12-year stint from Great Bend, came to Basehor-Linwood because of the tradition and commitment to athletic excellence. In stopping Sumner Academy 3-0 on Tuesday, Derek Mazeitis’ youth-laden Bobcats (6-11) improved upon last year’s victory total while earning a rematch at Spring Hill (14-2) at 5 p.m. on Friday.
