Breuer, Box win primary

Jayhawk83: Well said! Loughry and Hill did nothing wrong no matter how many times some want to spin the story. Former Mayor Hill tried to protect the city and for this the citizens recalled him. I am just sorry we had to lose former Mayor Hill because of the retailiation on the part of the Mertz, Dysart recall.

Breuer, Box win primary

You are correct, David Breuer did not vote to terminate Loughry. Box, Mertz and Dysert did. And then after the termination former Mayor Hill, following the city attorneys advice, issued a check to pay Loughry money due to him. At that time the entire council (INCLUDING BREUER) voted to stop the payment (against the city attorneys advice). THEN the lawsuit began. Box was wrong for his vote to terminate Loughry and Breuer was WRONG for his vote to go against the advice of the city attorney and voting to stop Mayor Hill from doing the right thing, which then caused Mayor Hill's recall. Yes indeed Box and Breuer both had a part in the fiasco. I was at the meeting when Mayor Hill once again protected the city from wrongdoing by a few members of the city. As I look back the council should have followed Mayor Hill's leadership and the city would never have gone through the last year. I do not believe that Box or Breuer should lead the city. A city should not be ran by individuals who make mistakes and use poor judgement as both of them have done in the past. Both men had a hand in costing the city embarrassment and dollars. I would have more respect for both of them if they would man up and admit their mistakes and clear the names of people who were disrespected and damaged. This city should be led by a man or woman who will do the right thing for the citizens and follow the advice of the experts who are hired to give advice.

Breuer, Box win primary

ClarkKent:
Mayor Breuer (former Councilman Breuer) was in fact a part of the nonsense that was going on prior.

Breuer, Box win primary

johninbasehor:
You are correct, Box did in fact vote to terminate Mr. Loughry. But also remember that former Mayor Hill followed the advice of the city attorney and issued the check for $50,000 that was due to Mr. Loughry. Mayor David Breuer (at that time Councilman David Breuer) voted with all of the other council members to stop the payment to Mr. Loughry (against the advice of the city attorney), Mayor Hill was recalled for following the advice of the city attorney and the city was sued because of the unamimous vote of council to block the payment. Mr. Breuer and Mr. Box were part of the vote that caused the lawsuit. Please put the blame where it's due. Breuer was at fault as was Box.

Mayoral forum gets heated

We certainly do not want to go through what has happened in the past. But please be clear as to what happened. Former Mayor Hill gave instructions for a check to be issued to Mr. Loughry for money due to him after his termination. The "old city council" which inclued Mayor David Breuer, voted unamiously to stop the issuing of that check. The only member of the city government at that time who listened to the city attorney was former Mayor Hill. And for that he was "recalled". After all was said and done Mr. Loughry won his lawsuit and rightfully so. I do not recall ever reading or hearing that in fact former Mayor Hill had done the right thing and had tried to protect the city. A great deal of the progressive movement going on in the city today was put into motion under former Mayor Hill's watch. Let us give credit where credit is due. Some things are just too large to sweep under the rug. I have not yet decided who will receive my vote for Mayor.
